Preparing for Surgery

Your physician and our staff will discuss your procedure with you.

  • Please ask all the questions that you need to feel comfortable with your procedure and know what to expect
  • Be prepared to tell the physician and staff all medications and over the counter (OTC) items you are currently taking.
  • Complete the health history form accurately so our staff has all relevant information
  • Please disclose relevant medical and health information to us, as well as any unexpected changes in your condition or health status, to help us provide the appropriate care

If you will be receiving general anesthesia or sedation, you will not be permitted to drive yourself home after the procedure. You will need an escort who should be at least twenty-five years of age and able to remain with you for the first 24 hours. If you are having local anesthesia, you will also need an escort to drive you home. Your escort must stay in the building during your surgery/procedure. PSC offers a comfortable waiting room for the comfort of your escort. If you do not have an escort, we will be forced to postpone your procedure.

On the Day of Surgery

Pre-Operative Area
Upon your arrival at PSC, our staff will strive to make your experience a positive one. Once you have checked in, a nurse will take you into our pre-operative area to take your vital signs, including blood pressure, temperature and pulse.
If receiving anesthesia, your anesthesiologist will talk with you to explain the process and answer any questions you have regarding your anesthesia. Finally, your physician will visit to answer any final questions.

Operating Room
After the pre-operative procedures, you will be taken to a state-of-the-art operating room for your surgery.

Post-operative Area
Upon completion of your surgery, you will recover in our recovery room where your escort will join you. As your recovery progresses, you will be given post-surgery discharge instructions to follow when you arrive at home. It is important for your escort to be present to hear those instructions as you may not remember all of them due to the anesthesia. Our staff will contact you after your procedure to follow up on your care and check on your progress.
